Spare parts and service in Asia
Purchasing region: Asia
Behr's involvement in Asia started about 15 years ago with the foundation of Behr India. Today we are active in all major markets in Asia and take advantage of the opportunities they offer.
India
Behr India Ltd., our 60:40 joint venture with Anand Automotive Systems, was set up in Pune in 1997. Most vehicles procured in India are fitted with air conditioning; the country’s typical combination of heat and high humidity ensures heavy demand.
In January 2007, Behr India opened a new facility in Pune-Chakan where it produces HVAC and engine cooling modules as well as heat exchangers, including radiators, charge air coolers, condensers and Visco® fans for the auto industry. At its plant in Sanand the company assembles HVAC modules for the Tata Nano.
Behr also pursues development activities in India: Around 100 engineers from Behr Engineering Services (BES) in Pune assume design, simulation and purchasing tasks for other locations, thus strenghtening our competitiveness.
Japan
Behr is represented in Japan by a sales company, Behr Japan, established in 1998. The Tokyo-based company liaises with headquarters. It also partners automakers in their international operations. This gives Behr access to their production facilities, the "transplants", in Asia, Europe and North America.
China
Behr’s involvement in the world’s fastest growing auto market began in 2001. Thanks to a wholly-owned subsidiary and its three joint venture companies, Behr is today able to produce and market its entire product range in China.
Behr Asia-Pacific Management
The staff at Behr Asia-Pacific Management (BAP) support and manage the business with our three joint venture companies. BAP manages the global coordination of projects for China and provides local support in terms of project management, purchasing, quality management and IT. Personnel development and communication activities round off the companies support activities.
SBTS
At the end of 2003, Shanghai Behr Thermal Systems (SBTS) was established in collaboration with Shanghai Automotive (SA), a subsidiary of the leading Chinese automotive group SAIC.
SBTS manufactures climate control and cooling modules as well as HVAC heat exchangers for passenger cars. At the end of 2005, the joint venture relocated its production operations to a new plant in Shanghai which also houses a technical center.
DBTS
Dongfeng Motors, China’s biggest truck maker, has partnered us since 2004 in Dongfeng Behr Thermal Systems (DBTS). In January 2006, the new DBTS facility in Wuhanwas inaugurated. DBTS also makes use of existing production facilities of the former Dongfeng Radiator in Shiyan. DBTS manufactures copper/brass radiators for passenger cars and trucks, aluminum products such as radiators and charge-air coolers for trucks as well as HVAC modules for both vehicle sectors.
SSB
Shanghai Sanden Behr Automotive Air Conditioning (SSB) was founded in collaboration with Shanghai Automotive in spring 2004 and is already the number one company in Chinafor refrigerant compressors for truck and cars. Other partners include Sanden Corporation and the industrial development company Shanghai Longhua Industrial Co., Ltd.
Behr Jinan
In April 2010, production operations commenced at Behr Jinan, Behr´s first fully-owned subsidiary in China. The Jinan plant is located around 900km to the northwest of Shanghai. From this facility Behr supplies CNHTC-a key truck customer-with air conditioning components and engine cooling systems.
South Korea
Since 2007 Behr has been represented in Korea by its own subsidiary: Behr Korea, located in Busan, coordinates customer projects with locally based automakers. The company´s main activities include the development of air conditioning and engine cooling products, sourcing from local suppliers, sales, industrialization for future production in Korean plants, as well as quality assurance.
Behr is also represented in Korea by its joint ventures:
Behr Thermot-tronik Korea is a 40:60 joint venture between our subsidiary, Behr Thermot-tronik, active in Korea since mid-90s, and CTR Corporation. In Changwon 27 employees produce control inserts, aluminum trade parts and housing thermostats.
The SHB Automotive Module Company Ltd., founded in 2002, is a joint venture with the local partner company, SL Corporation. The development of front-end modules takes place in Jillyang, the production in Hwasung, Seosan and Ulsan.
HBPO Korea Ltd., with a prototype plant in Daegu and a front-end production in Busan was founded in late 2005.
Purchasing region: Asia
The members of staff from Behr Asia-Pacific Management in Shanghai support the joint ventures’ purchasing teams, searching for favorably priced suppliers of tools, operating resources and components that meet Behr’s high quality-standards.
