About Behr

The Behr Values

Our values act as an inner compass, helping us keep our long-term focus in our day-to-day business dealings, which are sometimes based on short-term considerations. Every employee has the right and the responsibility to live and protect the Behr values.

The three Behr values, "innovative", "people-oriented" and "reliable" were first formulated for our parent company in 1995. In 2000, they were extended to apply to the whole Group, and "cost-focused" was added in 2002. That has now been changed to "results-focused", and the new value "cooperative" has also been added. Therefore, the Behr values are:

Innovative

Innovation is the key to our future. It gives us a competitive edge with our customers and helps us meet the challenges of a continuously changing market. We are proud to be the innovation leader. We foster an environment in which new ideas can emerge and flourish. We are open to new ideas, which we see as a source of growth and enrichment. Innovation requires more than technical competence. It requires the atmosphere of openness to new ideas and constructive criticism which provides improvement opportunities. Innovation also requires courage to act, keeping technical and economic aspects of innovation in perspective.

People-Oriented

The individual is at the center of everything we do. We challenge and encourage our employees. By respecting and trusting one another, we create a community of success. We know that outstanding achievements are the result of teamwork. In difficult situations, we focus on working together to find solutions. We see cultural diversity as a source of enrichment. With tolerance, we are able to create an environment where different talents are recognized and developed for the benefit of the Group.

Reliable

Reliability is a demand we place on ourselves, keeping commitments as diligently as possible. Once an agreement has been reached, it becomes an obligation, and this applies equally to our commitments to external and internal customers. Our products reflect our commitment to quality and reliability.


Results-Focused

For Behr, results-focused means focusing on the market. We must be able to match and exceed our customers’ performance expectations at a globally competitive cost. Our cost orientation in all processes enables us to create a basis for future profitable growth. We remain results-focused by establishing targets and working purposefully and directly towards our objectives.

Cooperative

Maintaining good long-term partnerships is more important to us than shortterm benefits. Conflicts are addressed proactively and resolved promptly. The interest of the Group as a whole comes before that of the individual divisions or departments. All employees, and managers in particular, are expected to keep a sense of the big picture and to be ready to balance diverse interests. This means that all parties must be ready to compromise when necessary. The ability to argue strongly for our positions on the one hand, and reach constructive compromises on the other, is also an important aspect of our internal and external partnerships.
